Call for Articles: New Heights Magazine - Jan/Feb’08 Issue

New Heights, the official magazine of Tampa’s Urban Corridor (UC), is requesting articles for key sections of its inaugural Jan-Feb 2008 issue. Articles must be prudent to residents and business owners within the UC (defined below), while written broad enough to appeal to all of Tampa. Extra editorial placement consideration will be given to articles with two or more direct quotes from residents/business owners within the areas that the magazine highlights.

Authors must submit their articles to Jay McGee at editor@NewHeightsMag.com by 5pm on Dec. 7, 2007 for consideration. Articles chosen, as well as their accompanying images, will be published in the hardcopy and online versions of New Heights, along with appropriate author/artist credits. (There are no stipends available at this time.)

Note: Please do NOT submit articles that have either been previously published or that are scheduled to be published in any city of Tampa serving publication.

Urban Corridor (UC) defined: Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights, downtown Tampa, Ybor City and surrounding neighborhoods.

* Home & Real Estate
* Heights’ Highlight (aka Community, People, Places &/or Events)
* Arts & Happenings

Writing Guidelines:
Accuracy and proper attribution of sources are essential. Authors are responsible for fact-checking their articles prior to submission, noting all sources and obtaining written permission to use any copyrighted material.

Feature Articles / Reviews of Businesses or Events/ People Profiles:
* Length: 600 to 1,500 words.
* When possible, divide text into shorter "chapters" for easier reading.
* Include supporting tables and graphics (i.e., photos, maps, charts, etc.) to add interest (see “Image Guidelines” (below)).

Other suggestions:
* Use a clear, friendly and non-technical style.
* Avoid jargon and explain acronyms on first reference.
* Make sure the article includes the importance or timeliness of the topic (somewhere in the article’s opening paragraphs).
* Focus on the positives of the article’s people, places, things and/or events. Be thorough and descriptive.
* Add an informational paragraph (for editor’s use only) describing your experience with the topic, if applicable.
* Provide information sources and include phone number/email of each person quoted.
* Bylines: Include author’s mini-bio and any relevant information you’d like to have accompany your article. Sending the author’s photo is also encouraged (see “Image Guidelines” (below)).

Image Guidelines:
Submit all images separately, with a brief text caption that explains what the reader is seeing.
* Supporting graphics (charts, graphs, maps, etc.): Submit as separate .pdf or .jpg files.
* Photographs: Submit as separate .pdf or .jpg files no larger than 500x300 pixels. Resolution must be 300 dpi of higher.
* All images must be accompanied by artist’s name and contact information (phone and/or email).
